Blunt body impact onto viscoelastic floating ice plate with a soft layer on its upper surface

چکیده
Two-dimensional vertical impact of a rigid blunt body onto floating ice plate is studied. The problem coupled and unsteady. liquid inviscid, incompressible, infinite depth. floe modeled as thin viscoelastic constant thickness. edges are free bending stresses shear forces. upper surface the covered with layer small thickness negligible inertia. reaction force this soft predicted by nonlinear one-dimensional Winkler-Kelvin-Voigt model, which does not permit contact between plate. may describe either presence snow on or crushed in place impact, can be considered way regularization problems concentrated loads. touches then suddenly starts to move downward velocity. It shown that strains caused weakly dependent characteristics layer. magnitudes distributions studied depending length plate, retardation time shape body, speed. value model discussed relation crushing impact.

Surface waves on a soft viscoelastic layer produced by an oscillating microbubble
Ultrasound-driven bubbles can cause significant deformation of soft viscoelastic layers, for instance in surface cleaning and biomedical applications. The effect of the viscoelastic properties of a boundary on the bubble-boundary interaction has been explored only qualitatively, and remains poorly understood. We investigate the dynamic deformation of a viscoelastic layer induced by the volumetr...
متن کاملBouncing gel balls: impact of soft gels onto rigid surface
– After thrown onto a solid substrate, very soft spherical gels bounce repeatedly. Separate rheological measurements suggest that these balls can be treated as nearly elastic. The Hertz contact deformation expected in the static (elastic) limit was observed only at very small impact velocities. For larger velocities, the gel ball deformed into flattened forms like a pancake. We measured the siz...
متن کاملFloating Cities on Ice Platform
Many small countries are in real need of additional sovereign territory. Sometimes, they even build on rotting landfills and install various kinds of expensive artificial islands. The ocean covers 71% of our Earth’s surface. Those countries (or persons of wealth) starting the early colonization of the ocean may obtain advantages through additional territory or creating their own independent sta...
متن کاملIce in a Floating Ice Tongue
Stable isotope analysis has been used successfully to distinguish between several different ice types in an ice tongue floating on sea water in Antarctica. At one critical location this technique has provided the only means of discriminating unambiguously between glacial ice and fresh-water ice formed from desalinated sea water. This part of the ice tongue is now underlain by a layer of desalte...
